CABC junior Dean Porter returned to winning ways in what could be his final bout of the season.
As the season draws to an end, Dean made the trip to Suffolk for the Eastgates’ show near Bury St.Edmunds. He faced Tom Martin of St.Ives in an intriguing contest, conceding both age and weight. The St.Ives boy had height and reach advantages but started cautiously looking to counter as Dean attacked. These single shots were never going to match Dean’s aggressive combinations and he got in front by the end of the first round. Martin started round two on the attack and forced Dean to retreat. It became untidy at times as Martin seemed intent on using his strength to manhandle and push Dean around rather than score clean shots. As a result of this, although it became hard going Dean was able to stay in front. The last was a cleaner round as Dean used his feet to maintain distance better, and held firm and let the shots go as Martin came onto him. It was close come the final bell, our Eastern Counties Champ looked good value for his points win!
Following a couple of losses against some top boys it was good to see Dean back to winning ways in a season which has seen him represent the club with no lack of style and success!
