From Left to Right Cameron, George, Bradley

As a result of the massive re-structure of the CABC training sessions, all new members undergo a 12 week skills acquisition stage encompassing the National Skills Awards of Preliminary, Standard and Bronze. Friday 16th April saw the first assessment of our pilot group for the 3 young men who had completed the 8 session syllabus of the Preliminary Award. Following 4 weeks hard work with new Club Coach Zena, George, Bradley and Cameron had each completed the workload and were ready for the assessment.

“There were more than twice this many started at the same time!” explained Zena “Some have fallen by the wayside and some have dropped behind as a result of only attending once per week! These 3 however have blazed ahead with it and really taken to it well! They’ve done all the sessions required and their attitude and effort has been tremendous. I had a few butterflies for them on Friday but was quietly confident they would do well in their assessment!”

The assessment was carried out by Carl Barton and he was pleasantly surprised by the skill of the young members. “They did exceptional all three” he beamed. “I’ve seen and performed assessments for the Preliminary Award before but never for participants this young. They acquitted themselves far better than any group I’d previously seen and it’s just great to see our pilot group performing at such a high standard. It gives us every belief that we made the right decision with our restructure and great confidence that these 3 will carry on with the same level of success through the remaining two awards.”

Once they finish this initial learning phase and hopefully collect all 3 awards, it will be into the main sessions for the aspiring boxers and the chance to progress to the competition squad.

Keep checking for updates on their progress from now on!
