The Essex round of the competition was staged in Billericay on Sat.10th Jan, and Dean faced Chelmsford prospect Henry Lee Wilkins in the Class3 Under 57kg final. Dean started work straight from the opening bell and soon had his opponent on the back foot. Driving forward with explosive punches from both hands, 14 year old Dean made the first round very tough going for his opponent. By mid way through the second round, Wilkins was doing well to hang in there as he was shaken and rocked regularly by the determined Dean’s aggressive attacks. Going into the final round with a comfortable lead, Dean was intent on finishing in style. He kept his control on the bout and again scored with heavy shots against the game Chelmsford boy.

The clear points victory gave Dean the Essex title and a place in the next round of the National Championships. This is just reward for Dean's new found enthusiasm and he has worked hard throughout the Xmas and new year period. It is only the first step, but he continues to work hard and retains this determination he will take some stopping in this competition !

In a supporting contest, popular CABC Senior Shaun Mansell lost to Braintree’s Ahley Twinn. Shaun’s boxing wasn’t enough to keep the strong Twinn at bay, but his dedication should surely start to pay off soon.
