In one of the best contests of the night by far, Dean overcame a hugely determined effort by Littleport’s Steven Smith. The mid-Anglia Champion had certainly come to win and started very fast with a strong two fisted attack. Dean was forced to box on the back foot for a change, such was the intensity of the onslaught from the Cambs. Boxer. The round continued with non stop exchanges of heavy punches from both boys with neither willing to give an inch. As the round drew to a close Dean scored with a great body shot that had noticeable effect, but the bell ended the first with Dean behind on points.
Smith started the second in more thoughtful mood and looked intent to box at range and try to utilise his reach advantage. This allowed Dean to regroup and he was soon edging in front by countering Smith’s leads with explosive combinations. The second finished with the roles reversed and the Colchester boxer seemed to have got his nose in front.
With everything resting on the final round it was always going to come down to fitness and grit. Again however, Smith was determined not to be denied and tried his hardest to take control. Dean’s fitness was proving the stronger as he managed to continue landing with combinations as Smith resorted to more single shots.
It was close come the end but Dean took a well deserved judges decision to earn an Eastern Counties Final spot in Cambridge on Wednesday 28th.

dean what a result, so proud of you mate, i am actually quite scared to sparr you now, you should be really pleased with yourself, you've done everyone at the club and your family proud, keep going mate the final is here now and i believe you can do it, good luck mate,

steve smith won the fight the ref was no good gipsys are the best
Unfortunately Ish, the referee has nothing to do with the scoring of the bout! Steve did box well and was ahead after first round. With the score now being continuous it's obviously possible to be behind after first and second rounds and still win. CB
