In conjunction with former world title challenging British Heavyweight Scott Welch, a day of sparring was organised with other friends of CABC. The agreed choice of venue was Harwich ABC and Martin Webb also organised for coaches and boxers to come over from Centurians and Castle clubs. All descended on the gym for an 11.00am start and things were soon underway.
Jack Perry got his first taste of sparring “on foreign soil” when he got some valuable rounds under his belt against a local Harwich newcomer. Jack boxed admirably and despite pressure from his older partner should have learned plenty from the experience.
Another Harwich-Colchester pairing saw Dan Jones “earn his wings” as he sparred really well against his older “opponent”. Dan is now improving by the week and is now on the active list to be matched for his first bout as soon as possible. Ben Smith found the going tougher than he expected against the more experienced Kit Lawrence from Centurians. Ben stuck to his task though and will benefit from the experience. He like Jack should be proud of their efforts.
Returning ex captain, Billy Smart enjoyed some good rounds with Hove’s experienced Lloyd Ellet. 48 bout Ellet looked accomplished and quality all day and Billy acquitted himself well as he battles to get his weight down and fitness up.
Hove’s other experienced boxers included Chris Eubank Jnr and they did some good work with Harwich’s Marcus Poston, Jack Schirmer and Bradley Hopper.
A good day for all, and special thanks to Committee member Steve Smith for getting the organisation underway and liaising with Scott.
