Alex faced Ryan Perry of Brighton City in what proved to be a very intriguing close match. From the opening bell, Alex was straight into his flow and threatened to overwhelm Perry as he scored with two fisted combinations. Scoring well with right crosses and left hooks he forced the taller Brighton man back for most of the opening round. Round two started with Perry visibly lifting his game and Alex was forced to rely on his defences more. This he did admirably, as he now adopted more of a countering strategy whilst trying to maintain a busy work rate. The last round was closer still. Alex’s first bout nerves now costing him stamina, as Perry attempted to take control. It was a valiant effort by the man from the south coast, but Alex was not to be denied. He stuck to his boxing despite taking more shots through to the final bell. The closeness of the bout was reflected in the split judge’s opinion with Alex winning on a majority decision.
This was one of the club’s best debut performances for some time, and hopefully Alex will get the chance to build on this before too long!
